The Floating fishing Villages are located less than 10km from Siem Reap. It is the perfect place to visit on the Tonle Sap Lake and is quite different type of village that you will see in Kompong Phluk or Kompong Khleang, its also the closest floating village and flooded forest to Siem Reap, in fact its 2 actual floating fishing villages.
The Queen Tara Riverboat cruise tours will begin at 10am, when we pick you up from your hotel or Guesthouse in an air-conditioned vehicle or tuk tuk. Our friendly and knowledgeable tour guides speak English (and Khmer of course) and they will ensure that you enjoy your cruise and tour, pointing out areas of local interest along the way and answering any questions you may have. It takes about 10 minutes to reach the first village and upon arrival we will exit the vehicle and jump onto one of our traditional riverboats – smaller boats with life jackets and toilets, for your safety and comfort and driven by experienced and safe local drivers.
On route to the Queen Tara Boat, we will have an opportunity to stop and visit the Lotus silk farms and take some photo of the lotus flowers (seasonal) which is a deeply important flower in Buddhism, our guide will also explain the many different uses of this important flower.
The boat cruise through the floating village, passing the flooded forests will allow you to see ordinary Cambodians going about their daily life in the floating village. Fishermen, boat-makers, markets, schools, spirit houses and waving children are always in plentiful supply on this mesmerizing scenic route, and it is not uncommon for the scenery to provoke silence on the Mini Tara, as guests take in the sights and sounds that surround them. a quick stop also at the floating fish farm is quite interesting, Once the cruise through the floating village is complete, your boat will briefly enter the edge of the Great Lake before docking with the Queen Tara – the biggest boat on the Tonle Sap Lake. (Did you know the Queen Tara Riverboat is almost 100 years old?) Please take the time to explore our beautiful, restored riverboat as she has a great history to tell.
There you will enjoy a well-deserved lunch (Vegetarian options available) and 2-cold drinks for free! Afterwards you can lie back in a hammock, take a seat on the viewing deck or get your photo taken at the steering wheel. Watch as other tour groups drive past on their rickety little boats whilst you chill out, relax, and enjoy the comfort & luxury of the biggest boat on the lake. At about 1:15pm you’ll leave the Queen Tara and head back to the port where your air-conditioned vehicle will be waiting to transport you directly home to your hotel or Guesthouse.
