Captain’s Log: Week 15 – April 2026

It’s been a busy week out on the water, and nature is putting on quite the show. Here’s the latest update from the Tonle Sap:

The Skies of Prek Toal

We are right in the thick of the nesting season at Prek Toal Bird Sanctuary. It is an incredible sight at the moment—the canopy is heavy with activity. We are seeing massive colonies of Spot-billed Pelicans and Painted Storks tending to their nests. For the birders on board, the Greater Adjutants and Oriental Darters are also highly active. Even as the water levels shift this time of year, the concentration of these rare water birds remains world-class. If you’re heading out with a camera, the early morning light hitting those nesting sites is magic.

Golden Hours & Floating Life

Our sunset cruises have been particularly stunning lately. As the heat of the day breaks, the lake turns into a giant mirror for some of the best sunsets in Southeast Asia.

  • Floating Villages: Navigating through the villages, it’s great to see the daily rhythm of life—fishermen heading out for the night and children playing on the stilted platforms.

  • The Horizon: We’ve been finding some quiet, secluded spots out on the open water to let the boats drift while the sky turns those deep oranges and purples. It’s the perfect way to wrap up a day of exploring.

A Quick Note on Pricing

You might have noticed that fuel prices across Cambodia have jumped significantly recently—hitting over $1.50 per liter in some areas due to global shifts.

Our Commitment: Despite these rising operational costs, we are holding the line. Our tour prices remain exactly the same. We believe in keeping our experiences accessible and supporting our local “riverboat family” and the communities we visit without passing that extra burden onto you.

See you on the river!
