Captain’s Log – Week 9
Tonlé Sap / Mekong River Route
This week has brought some welcome changes along the river. The water levels on the Tonlé Sap are noticeably higher than they were at the same time last year. A spell of very late rains has helped lift the levels, and with the cooler conditions it has made travelling along the waterways more comfortable for both crew and guests.
One highlight this week has been our solar power system. With clear skies most days, the boat has been producing more electricity than we need. Rather than letting it go to waste, we’ve been sharing some of that excess solar power with families in the nearby floating villages. It’s a small thing, but for homes on the lake it can mean lights at night, charging phones, or running a fan.
The floating communities always remind us how closely life here follows the rhythm of the lake. Higher water means easier travel for boats, better access between homes, and a little more breathing room for the fishing families who depend on the lake each day.
The cooler weather has also been a welcome change after the hotter weeks earlier in the season. Calm mornings and clear sunsets have made for some beautiful runs across the lake.
Another steady week on the river—good water, good weather, and good people along the way.
